Trembled by the very sight of a newborn baby falling off the bed, but finally….. by Maria Mathew

I doze off not knowing my little one has started rolling over the bed. Suddenly I hear her screaming. I jump up and run to find my newborn on the floor. My heart trembles and I ask myself, how could this ever happen? Feeling miserable I am sharing my views. I hope you do not have this experience ever.

She normally sleeps and when she wakes up she makes some sound to call out saying “I have woken up, come fetch me”. But that day she decided to lie still without making any noise. She surprised us all…

She cried a little and when we started pampering her and showing her favorite toys she started laughing, bringing a smile to all our startled faces.

But please be very careful when you have a newborn at home!

Things you need to know in case your baby ever falls:

· Be calm and do not panic. Seeing you getting and worried affects the baby. The baby’s reaction can be influenced by the parent’s reaction to a particular situation. Carry your baby and try to calm him/her down in case of very bad crying. Try diverting their mind, so that they can start forgetting what just happened

· Do not show the baby that you are startled and scared. Seeing your reaction your baby will respond in the same way. So be alert.

· Check your baby completely. Whether there is any discoloration or any bruises or swelling. Have a thorough check so that you do not miss any cuts or scratches. Keep a watch on your baby so you do not miss any marks on your baby’s body

· If you feel the swelling is too much, use an ice pack so that you can soothe the baby

· In case you are panicky and do not know what to do call someone for help. Maybe someone calm and cool-headed. You should seek help whenever necessary. Meeting a doctor would help you ease out all worries and tensions. You can rule out all the possibilities of danger

· If you find your baby is less active, vomiting, or some changes in behavior, immediately call the doctor. Do not wait to call the doctor. Respond to the situation as soon as possible. Since if you prolong the situation, you are moving your baby into a dangerous situation.

When you leave your little one unattended on the bed, the chances of falling are more. The only way to avoid this is to be a little more cautious and careful. Prevention is the best way to avoid these occurrences.

When to go to the Doctor

Even if your baby does not have a severe injury or falls unconscious, it is better to go check with a doctor if you find these symptoms:

· Your baby is extremely sleepy and very tired. Baby is not able to wake up and is a little drowsy

· Continuous crying badly and everything you do does not work well. Nothing comforts the baby

· Swelling or discoloration of the skin

· Rubbing or touching one part of the body frequently. For example, if your baby goes on pulling his/her ears or keeps touching the ear, the ear must be hurt. So be attentive to see such reactions from your baby

· Yellow fluid coming from the ears or nose

· Crying in a high pitch, not like the normal cry

· Pupils in different sizes

· Vomiting

· Getting irritated to the sounds of a favorite toy

If you find these symptoms approach a doctor immediately. Any unusual behavior seen should be rushed to the doctor. Do not prolong, take immediate action. Better be safe than feeling sorry miserable later.
